  Paper lanterns, originating from Eastern Han Dynasty (25-220), mainly were used as lamps in ancient China. A variety of crafts  were used in their making such as Chinese paintings, paper-cutting, and pricking and seaming and many kinds of materials such as bamboo, wood, wheat-straw and metal were used in their manufacture. Paper and silk were the major materials.

👉 紙燈籠始源於漢朝，一開始主要是當作照明工具（燈）常見的材料為竹子、木頭、稻草和金屬。

   Originally, monks used lanterns on the twelfth day of the first lunar month in their worship of the Buddha. During the Eastern Han Dynasty, the Emperor Liu Zhuang was a Buddhist and he ordered the inhabitants of the imperial palace and citizens to light lanterns to worship the Buddha just as the monks did. Later, this custom gradually became a grand festival among common people. During the Tang Dynasty (618 - 907), people made lanterns to celebrate their peaceful life while the splendid illuminations symbolized and celebrated the prosperous, strong and powerful country. From then on, lighting lanterns became popular in the country.

👉一開始，和尚在農曆一月的第十二天用燈籠拜拜;後來漢明帝因為崇信佛教，命令所有的居民都要點燃燈籠來敬拜佛陀。漸漸地，這個習俗就變成一個大家都會遵循的傳統。

在唐朝，人們做燈籠來慶祝他們的和平和富饒的生活。從那時候開始，點燈籠就變成一個流行的活動。

🔺materials材料

1 a piece of colored paper(25x 26 cm) 一張色紙 2.a pair of scissors一把剪刀  3. A stapler 一個釘書機 3. a roll of golden tape 一捲金色膠帶 4. a metallic marker 一隻金屬奇異筆 5. a paper cup 一個紙杯

🔺steps 步驟

step1

Use a pair of scissors to cut a centimeter strip 

用剪刀剪寬一公分的紙

step2

Fold the colored paper lengthwise (leave a three- centimeter margin) and cut it into half

縱向對折（留三公分空白）切一半

step3

Roll a colored paper（smaller one)  around the paper cup. Make a tube.

用比較小張的色紙卷在紙杯上 做出一個圓筒

Staple the paper( top and bottom)

用釘書機把上下釘起來

Take out the bigger colored paper and fold about one centimeter (the upper part and bottom part)

拿出比較大的色紙，上下都折一公分

Fold the colored paper in half

把色紙對折

Use a metallic marker to draw 

使用金屬筆畫出喜歡的圖案

Cut along the folded edge (not all the way to the end, stopping 1 centimeter from the top)

沿著對折邊邊開始剪（注意不要剪到底，至少預留一公分）

Make a tube around the smaller colored paper and staple it onto the tube (step 4)

卷上步驟四的小紙筒，並且用釘書機釘上

staple the first strip on the top as a handle

把一開始剪下來的紙條用釘書機釘在上面當作提把

Put the paper cup into the hole.

把紙杯放進去小紙筒的洞裡面
